PWWSD Expresses Regret and Disapproval of Local Election Halt

Ramallah – September 9: The Palestinian Working Woman Society for Development (PWWSD) expresses its regret and disapproval of the Supreme Court’s resolution to temporarily freeze local elections, and asserts the need to hold elections on October 8 as scheduled. The organization also calls for addressing the causes of this halt, and fostering an environment of concord and harmony away from bickering among different political powers and parties.

PWWSD considers local elections a critical opportunity to end division, as a path towards holding presidential, legislative and PNC elections.

The organization emphasizes its disapproval of all justifications for this freeze as weak excuses and an affront to democracy and law, and considers halting or postponing elections a further deepening of division.

PWWSD hopes that the Supreme Court will make a decision on the suit filed to lift the temporary halt, and resume the preparation process for holding elections as scheduled by the unity government’s resolution.
