Nida Hreish, from Beitunia
“I am a member of the Beitunia Municipality. I have a message and a principle I have worked towards, and part of what I wanted to achieve by taking part in elections is to prove that women are capable of holding different positions in public office. My presence at the municipality constitutes a new form of political participation, whether as an employee, volunteer, or beneficiary of municipal services.
As soon as I arrived at my position, my colleagues at the municipality started setting a work plan through the council, in addition to forming committees, with me being a member of the municipality’s women’s committee among other committees. In addition to my municipal work, I also work with different women’s organizations and institutions.
I took initiative and joined many training courses on communication and media skills as well as administrative skills, which has helped me succeed as a member of the municipal council. I consider myself worthy of my position as an active member and participant in all activities.
I hope to see more women in local councils in the next elections, and I demand recognition and appreciation for what women and men are doing to build our community, remove the root causes of gender-based discrimination in opportunities, rights, and duties, and work on eliminating inequality.
